Summer Hols are Nearly Over!

An interesting month. It started with a trip to Derbyshire to see the grandchildren. All growing up, they are now all at proper school. Not sure about Derbyshire County education, but there is no chance of our funding a private education unless something extraordinary happens. However, I still am amazed at how quickly they develop and grow up.

Then to Scotland to meet Alan and Judith Brodie. They are old friends from Cayman - Alan was Rotary treasurer when I was secretary there, and we have kept in touch. They rang and told us they were cpoming to UK, and were staying in Melrose, which is where my sister-in-law and her family eventually settled. We had 3 days with the Brodies and three with the family. It was Border country, so there was not as much excitement about the referendum as there was elsewhere, and it was pretty obvious that in those parts there was a 'No' vote coming. The family were in the 'Yes' camp, of course, and are excellent examples of the well known theory that there are none so fervent as converts, as all of them were born south of the border, and most were south of the Thames. We left on the 18th and fled to Yorkshire, and six quiet days on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Our 4th trip on the hotel boat, which has been really great - see previous blogs. We met No. 2 son's mother-in-law at Leeds, and then the three of us went to Skipton to join the boat, on which there was another couple from USA. We had a double en-suite cabin with a power shower and every conceivable extra. Three  meals daily, with coffee and home made biscuits in the mornings, and tea with home made cakes in the afternoons and as much wine and pre-dinner drinks as we wished - all at no extra cost!

Home after that, with an interesting interlude on the way home with a sat-nav that tried to take me from the south end of the A1 to Dulwich via Hanger Lane and other places until I switched it off and navigated by memory. Very nice to drive down Park Land again.

On the 25th to the Skinners' Arms in Judd Street to meet over a dozen chaps from our old form at School. Great to see them all again. Didn't manage to make the Rotary meeting that evening.

All in all a very pleasant month. Not a drop of rain, which is great at the time, but not quite ideal. Better to have rain every night and sunshine every day. Not sure where to find that.

Jokes this month have been a bit scarce, but

Sharp eyed stewardess

A man and a woman are seated next to each other on a flight.

They start eyeing each other up,
And
Both realize they want to do the same thing.

He slips a condom out of his pocket,
And
She looks delighted.

Rear toilet?
He suggests.
Five minutes, she agrees, and goes off.

He waits five minutes, then goes and slips in there with her.
Right, get that condom on, she says.
Soon, they are both sighing with pleasure.

But a sharp eyed stewardess has noticed them, and realized what they are up to,
So, she humiliates them both by making an announcement over the radio
.
"To the lady and gentleman in the rear toilet,
We know what you are doing,
And
It is expressly forbidden by airline regulations.
Now, please put those cigarettes out
And
Take the condom off the smoke detector."
